Circle Time Video – watch this once a day!
|
Task Description:
· Circle Time Routine plan using visuals
· Hello Song – encourage your child to sing along. Here are the words:
Hi, Hi Hello! Hi, Hi Hello!
It’s time for circle!
Hi, Hi Hello! Hi, Hi Hello!
It’s time for circle now.
Hello (Child’s name)
Hello (Child’s name)
Hello (Child’s name)
Hello (Child’s name)
Hi, Hi Hello! Hi, Hi Hello!
It’s time for circle now.
· This week’s story is: Goodnight Gorilla by Peggy Rathman
Language Development:
· This book has very few words which presents an opportunity for your child to “tell” the story in their own words. Why don’t you try pausing the video while I read the story to ask your child what is happening in the story.
· Or you can watch the video version on YouTube, stopping to talk about each animal:
· Remember, rather than asking questions, make comments that encourage your child to tell you their ideas
o “Wow, look at that ...”
o “Oh dear, that gorilla is ...”
o “I like the ...”
o “I wonder...”
Observation and Feedback:
· Observe your child as they participate in Circle Time.
· If you are able, take a picture of your child participating in the activity and email it to Ms. Angela – alklassen@cbe.ab.ca

Build your own Zoo
Materials: Whatever you have on hand from around the house
· Toys from around the house (animals, Lego, blocks, etc.)
· Items from the recycling bin
Instructions:
· Create a zoo complete with houses for the animals. Have fun as you build a different home for each creature. Think about what each animal will need. Who lives in the water? Who lives in the jungle? Who lives on the plains of Africa?
· What would your animals like to eat?
· Encourage your child to move the animals around their Zoo as they re-enact the story Goodnight Gorilla
|
Creative Time – Gorilla Hand Print art
|
Materials:
· Heavy paper such as construction paper or cereal box
· Paint – black and grey (or any 2 colours will do)
· Paintbrush
· Googly eyes (optional)
· Glue
· Black marker (to add details – mouth, nose and eyes)
Instructions:
· Invite your child to place their hand in the black paint or use a paint brush to cover their hand with paint
· Brush the grey paint in the centre of their palm (see picture above)
· Carefully place the painted hand onto the paper – this is the gorilla body, legs and arms (yes, the gorilla will have too many legs! J)
· Position the handprint so the fingers are pointing down
· Use the paintbrush to make a black circle on top for the head, then add a smaller grey circle inside for the face (see picture above)
· Let dry
· When fully dry add details to make the gorilla –
o googly eyes or small circles of white paper
o add ears, nose and mouth with a Sharpie or black marker
· Have fun!
|
Gross Motor with Ms. Stacey
|
Materials:
· Animal Walk Cards
· Circus Animal Game
Instructions:
· If you have access to a printer you can print the Animal Walk cards off and cut them out into separate cards
· Place the cards into a small bag, box or container
· Have your child reach into the bag and select a card to do the action
· Repeat with additional cards
· Use the cards as a transition activity: select a card and ask your child to use the animal walks when they
o go to the bathroom
o get ready for bed
o head to the park
o stand on one foot while brushing their teeth, etc.
· The Circus Game is a fun activity to strengthen and stretch muscles, develop balance and work on coordination of movement
· Have fun!
