This week’s story is:   Five Little Monkeys by Eileen Christelow

Language Development with Ms. Shauna:
·      Repetition, repetition!!!   Reading books and singing songs many times supports your child’s language development by allowing them to hear new words and then try to use them in their own language more effectively.
·      Encourage your child to sing along with the Monkey song/story.

Story Follow-up:
·      Acting out the story of 5 Little Monkeys is so much fun!
·      Place a blanket on the floor (not the real bed so we don’t actually bump our head!)
·      Invite your child to pretend they are the monkey by jumping on the blanket, then jumping onto the floor when the song says “one fell off and bumped his head”.  Use a block or a car as a pretend phone to call the doctor.
·      Another way to act this story/song out is to use stuffed animals and a blanket.  Invite your child to place 5 stuffed toys on the blanket, then pick up the blanket to shake the toys in the air (like a parachute game).  Shake the toys off the blanket one at a time as you sing the song.
·      Finally, use the Monkey Sock Puppet (instructions below) to re-enact the story.
·      Remember to make it fun!

Observation and Feedback:
·      Observe your child as they participate in Circle Time.
·      If you are able, take a picture of your child participating in the activity and email it to Ms. Angela – alklassen@cbe.ab.ca
